Bryce graduated in 1972 from Manchester University and became an associate in a local dental practice.

After two years, he returned to the Dental School as a part-time Lecturer in Conservative Dentistry. His feelings at that time were that he could assist future graduates in their transition from student to practitioner and offer him the opportunity to increase his own operative skills thereby resulting in an improved service for his patients. He achieved these aims by strengthening his previous undergraduate relationship with Charles Rowbotham whose advice he sought on a variety of matters.

In 1980 he purchased the practice and immediately set about re-organising and re-equipping. The profile of dentistry needed to be significantly raised in the community and further afield.

In 1983, the British Dental Trades Association requested Bryce to present his approach to “Panoral Radiography” at the annual meeting which was held in Harrogate. Such was its impact that subsequently, he was asked to give presentations for numerous dental companies throughout the UK and over several years.

In 1986, he became involved with the Pankey Association who offered both a wider range of technical expertise and also the “personal” approach, which had become lost due to the pressures of the NHS. His experiences with these dentists who were intimately involved with American dentists provided the impetus to start globetrotting to improve key skills in practice development. Dr. Ken James from Washington, Seattle was an important figure in providing care for patients and this has considerably improved with the close involvement with Dr. Roger Levin from Baltimore.

In 1994 the visit of Dr Jack Hahn from Cincinnati to England was to prove particularly significant and this heralded the start of implantology at the practice. Jack has become an extremely good mentor to follow and frequent trips to America are the order of the day to keep up with the speed of developments in this high-tech area.
Bryce became a regular contributor to the Dental Practice magazine as he felt that he wanted to pass his enthusiasm for developments in dentistry onto other dentists.

Further practice computerisation has brought its headaches but the benefits of intra-oral pictures and instant X-ray pictures are tremendously impressive and a special boon in implantology as well as general dentistry.

Dr Arthur Ashman of New York University has also proved a useful advisor from across the Atlantic and his Bioplant material has been used in countless operations at the practice. Indeed, Bryce was asked to participate in a DVD production where he demonstrated the use of Bioplant HTR following extraction of teeth in order to ensure ridge preservation.
